Firefighter Class in Animal Hospital: 1100 Coin Review

The newest recruit on the roster, added in the July 25th, 2026 update, is a grayish blue elephant with a hose. The Firefighter does exactly what the name promises, and therein lies both its charm and its problem: it is the best class in Animal Hospital at fighting fires, and fires are only one slice of what tries to kill you.

Perks From Level 1 to 3

LevelPerk
1Start with a Fire Extinguisher and +1 max inventory capacity
2Recover 1 Sanity when putting out fires
3Immune to Sanity drain from fires, +10 bonus Sanity

The starter item deserves its own note. The Firefighter’s Special Fire Extinguisher recharges on its own while sitting in your inventory, unlike the regular Fire Extinguisher, which must be carried to the Charging Station. That means you always have suppression ready, every shift, forever.

Cost and Availability

The community wiki’s infobox lists the Firefighter at 1100 Animal Coins, sold in the usual lobby class shop: the Classes button on the left of the screen, or the yellow circle next to the ambulance, left of the spawn point. At the standard earning pace of 2 coins per treated patient and 0.5 per rejected anomaly, that is a substantial grind for a specialist. Leveling follows the shared curve of 200 EXP for level 2 and another 850 for level 3. One more bit of trivia: it is currently the only class without a purchasable skin.

Making the Elephant Work

  • Own the fire emergencies. Any patient room can randomly catch fire, and standing near flames drains 1-3 Sanity per second for normal classes. At level 3 you walk through it unharmed, calmly extinguishing while teammates keep treating.
  • Ambulance events are your showcase. Every five shifts, six patients rush in and some arrive literally on fire with death timers ticking. A Firefighter with an always-charged extinguisher saves patients no one else can reach in time.
  • The extinguisher moonlights as a detector. Spraying it can reveal an invisible Ghost’s location for a moment, a niche but genuinely handy trick when doors start opening on their own.
  • Level 2 turns hazards into sips of health, 1 Sanity per fire put out, but do not rely on it as your healing plan; fires are too irregular. Keep coffee (15 Sanity) and chocolate (60) in that bonus inventory slot, and read the sanity guide for the full economy.

Final Assessment

The Firefighter lands in C tier on our tier list, sharing the basement with the free Intern, and the reason is coverage, not quality. Its perks are well designed and the self-recharging extinguisher is a legitimately elegant item, but everything it offers answers one threat category. Compare the 500-coin Psychologist, which upgrades your entire Sanity economy, or even the 250-coin Paramedic, whose speed helps in every emergency including fires. Spending 1100 coins to dominate a hazard you could already handle with a store-bought extinguisher is a luxury, not a strategy.

Buy it if you love the fantasy or you run a coordinated four-player crew that wants a dedicated hazard specialist. Otherwise, admire the elephant from the class shop and spend your coins elsewhere.
