Animal Hospital Treatments: Which Remedy Cures What
Every patient you admit in Animal Hospital (Anomaly) lies down in a room and waits for a remedy. The room computer shows the prescription; the wall cases in the Medical and Emergency Wings hold the items. Match them exactly — a patient given the wrong treatment dies, your shift rating tanks, and three animal deaths fail the run.
The full treatment table
| Treatment | Cures | Category (as documented) | Extra uses |

| IV Drops | Dehydration | Hydration remedy | Extinguishes ritual candles with no sanity loss |
| Maple Syrup | Low sugar, “Canadian” | Syrup | Pacifies the Bed Monster (the “Maple Trick” achievement) |
| Medicine | Headaches | Ache remedy | — |
| Medkit | Bruises | Anti-inflammatory remedy | — |
| Ointment | Rashes | Integumentary remedy | Can treat a burning patient’s wounds |
| Thermo | Fevers | Anti-inflammatory remedy | — |
Two notes on the table. First, the wiki’s Medicine page is internally inconsistent — its intro calls it a stomach-ache item while its strategy section says it cures headaches; since Herbs is the confirmed stomach-ache cure and the two are described as the pair of “ache remedies,” headaches is the sensible reading. Second, Maple Syrup is described as one of two syrups; the other, cough syrup, appears in patient-care notes only as a way to clean slime faster — what condition it cures is not documented.
Where treatments live
Remedies are stocked on the wing walls, grouped by category: the hydration treatments, anti-inflammatory treatments, and integumentary remedies sit along one side of each wing, with the syrup treatments and medical treatments along the other. Both the Medical Wing (Rooms 1-5) and Emergency Wing (Rooms 6-8) carry stock, and the Surgery room has its own supply of items like bandages, IV drops, and medkits. Full room positions are in the map guide.
The tutorial hard-codes your first two prescriptions: shift 1’s first patient always has a stomach ache (Herbs) and the second always has Dried Eyes (Eye Drops). Keep both in hand from the start and shift 1 is free money.
The wrong-item kill — read this twice
The single most dangerous mechanic in the game, straight from the wiki’s item documentation: the game does not check whether the item you are using on a patient is a treatment item at all. Interacting with a patient while holding anything not prescribed to them — a coffee, a taser, another room’s remedy — can kill them on the spot.
The “Treat From Inventory” upgrade sharpens the knife: with it equipped, interacting with a patient while you have no prescribed item anywhere in your inventory instantly kills them, even with empty hands. If you run that upgrade, stock the prescription before you ever click the patient.
Killing a normal patient this way counts as an animal death — one drops your shift score to Poor, and the rating guide explains how fast that erodes your pay. The one exception cuts the other way: killing an anomaly with a wrong treatment is rewarded, and even has its own Journal achievement (“Wrong Treatment, Right Target,” 10 Animal Coins).
Treatments beyond healing
Several remedies double as defensive tools, which is why veterans carry spares:
- Eye Drops / IV Drops put out death-ritual candles safely; doing it bare-handed costs 1-3 sanity per candle.
- Maple Syrup turns the Bed Monster docile — approach its red hitbox holding the jug.
- Ointment treats patients who have caught fire during room-fire events.
Slot priorities and what to buy first are covered in the beginner guide; the class that carries the most of these at once is the Nurse, whose perk adds inventory slots — see the classes overview.
